AI in Switzerland: Innovation Anchored by Inclusion

Switzerland’s AI landscape is thriving, driven by institutions like EPFL and ETH Zurich, and energized by a dynamic network of startups and agencies. Yet even in a nation famed for innovation, the question remains: who is shaping this future?
Women in Digital Switzerland (WDS) is bringing attention to that very question with two important gatherings focusing on AI, both taking place on 17 June.
In Lausanne, “Artificial Intelligence, Beyond the Hype – The Real Impact on Jobs and Professionals” will explore how AI is fundamentally altering professions and what skills are now essential to stay in step with change.
The same evening in Geneva, the WDS Chapter is hosting “Women in Digital: Navigating Digital Transformation and AI”, a panel discussion featuring trailblazing women leaders.
By spotlighting AI through these events, WDS is affirming that inclusion must be front and center as Switzerland charts its digital destiny.
Representation isn’t simply a matter of fairness. It fundamentally shapes the technology we create. Studies abound showing that diverse teams produce more ethical, unbiased, and robust AI systems. There are fewer than 20% of AI professionals that are women globally, and Swiss figures likely at or below that level. The scale of the gender gap is clear. Structural barriers, limited access to STEM careers, subtle biases, and a persistent absence of visible role models all play a role.
That’s why events like these are so critical. They create visibility and connection. They allow women in the sector to share challenges and strategies. For innovators and changemakers in the Swiss AI ecosystem, the value is immense.
As AI continues its transformation of the workforce and the economy, it’s vital to ask not just what we build, but who builds it. When women are in the room, and recognized for their contributions, AI becomes richer, more equitable, and more innovative for all.
